OAIJSS screens manuscripts for originality and inappropriate overlap as part of editorial assessment. A similarity report is an aid to editorial judgement, not an automatic decision rule.

Author responsibilities

Acknowledge sources, use quotation marks for direct quotations, obtain permissions where necessary and disclose related manuscripts, preprints and prior dissemination. Translation or paraphrase does not remove the obligation to credit the original source.

Editorial response

Editors assess the nature, extent and context of overlap. Minor attribution problems may require correction. Substantial plagiarism, duplicate publication or misrepresentation may lead to rejection, investigation or a correction/retraction after publication. Authors are given an opportunity to respond to substantive allegations.
