OAIJSS publishes six issues per year and releases accepted articles progressively, so that each article becomes citable as soon as its production is complete.
Issues per year
Six issues are published each year, each covering a two-month period: January–February, March–April, May–June, July–August, September–October, and November–December. The journal has published on this schedule without interruption, and the current volume is listed in the Archives.
Progressive publication (Issue in Progress)
Accepted articles are not held back until an issue is complete. The current issue is opened as an Issue in Progress, and each article is published online as soon as production is finished, carrying its final DOI, pagination and citation details. Readers and indexing services therefore receive the version of record at the earliest possible date.
An article published into an Issue in Progress is not modified when the issue is later closed; the issue simply stops accepting further articles and its title drops the Issue in Progress label.
Articles completed after an issue closes
An article is never inserted into an issue that has already been closed. Articles whose production finishes after the current issue closes are published in the next issue. This protects the integrity of the published record and the stability of citations.
Expected timelines
Editorial assessment is normally completed within 1–3 days, peer-review reports are returned within approximately 2–4 weeks, author revision is expected within 1–2 weeks, and copyediting takes approximately one week. The full stage-by-stage timeline is given in the Peer Review Process and on the Submission Process page.
Permanence and access
Every article carries a registered DOI and is freely available in full text from the moment of publication, with no embargo, as set out in the Open Access Policy. Corrections and retractions after publication follow the Publication Ethics policy and are published as linked, dated notices rather than silent changes.
