OAIJSS uses double-blind peer review by at least three independent reviewers for each research manuscript that passes editorial screening. Author and reviewer identities are concealed from one another during review.

Editorial assessment

The editor checks scope, originality, reporting quality, ethical requirements, author declarations and manuscript completeness. Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be declined before external review.

Independent assessment

Reviewers are selected for relevant subject and methodological expertise. They must disclose conflicts of interest, decline assignments where impartiality is compromised, maintain confidentiality and provide reasoned, constructive assessments. Reviewers must not use unpublished material for personal advantage.

Revision and decision

Authors receive anonymised comments and respond point by point. Revised manuscripts may return to reviewers. The handling editor considers the reports and revisions; the Editor-in-Chief retains responsibility for the final decision. Review recommendations are advisory and do not constitute a guarantee of publication.

Editorial independence

Submissions by editors, editorial board members or reviewers are handled by an independent editor who has no conflict of interest. Authors do not participate in the assessment or decision on their own submissions. Financial or institutional relationships must not influence decisions.

Special issues and appeals

Special-issue manuscripts follow the same screening, three-reviewer process and ethical requirements as regular submissions. Guest editors are subject to oversight by the Editor-in-Chief. Authors may submit a reasoned appeal to indonesiajournalsocialsciences@gmail.com; a person independent of the challenged decision reviews the appeal.
